About this role

The ambulatory pharmacy lead training technician provides integrated support to patients and pharmacists using a hands-on approach to total quality patient care. They complete day-to-day pharmacy technician tasks while training new employees and students in the Tech Training Program. As a leader, they ensure technician duties are assigned and completed accurately and timely.

They answer employee questions on departmental policies and procedures for URAC and ACHC compliance. Responsibilities include coordinating training schedules for new hires, ensuring access to systems and completion of competencies. They manage new and yearly competencies to guarantee staff completion.

Feedback is provided to the Operations Manager, Training Coordinator, and Lead Tech on new hires and student progress. They report problems, outstanding performance, and personnel needs to managers. Support extends to filling in as Ambulatory Pharmacy Technical Operations Coordinator when required.

Daily support for pharmacists and technicians includes covering roles during shortages. Monthly reporting covers temperature and humidity monitoring, phone metrics, prescription statistics, delivery records, regulatory updates, and complaint logs. Excellent customer service is maintained alongside prescription interpretation, entry, clarification, labeling, filling, and pharmaceutical calculations.

Requirements

  • Pharmacy technician registration or certification suitable for ambulatory pharmacy operations
  • Knowledge of URAC and ACHC compliance standards for pharmacy policies and procedures
  • Experience in training new pharmacy technicians and students
  • Proficiency in coordinating training schedules and managing competencies
  • Ability to interpret and enter prescriptions accurately
  • Skill in clarifying prescription orders with pharmacists or clinicians
  • Competence in labeling, filling prescriptions, and performing pharmaceutical calculations
  • Familiarity with monthly pharmacy reporting including environmental monitoring and regulatory logs

Responsibilities

  • Complete training of new technicians and students enrolled in the training program
  • Answer staff questions concerning departmental policies and procedures for URAC and ACHC compliance
  • Coordinate training schedule of all new hires, ensuring access to necessary systems and completion of competencies
  • Manage new and yearly competencies and ensure staff completion
  • Provide feedback to Lead tech, training coordinator, and operations manager on new hires and students training progression
  • Provide support and fill in as Ambulatory Pharmacy Technical Operations Coordinator when needed
  • Support pharmacists and technicians in daily duties and cover technician roles in emergency or short-staffed situations
  • Complete monthly reporting requirements including temperature and humidity monitoring, phone metrics, prescription statistics, delivery records, regulatory updates, and complaint logs
