Pharmacy Technician I

Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, performs a variety of clerical, distributive, technical and data gathering duties to provide medications for patient care. This role aligns with Pharmacy Technician expectations outlined by the region/area specific career ladder. Focuses on supporting patient needs in a community retail pharmacy setting.

Daily tasks include assisting with preparation and distribution of medications, accurately selecting, preparing, and labeling drugs including hazardous and controlled substances. Handles medication distribution, screens phone calls with proper etiquette, and manages procurement, inventory control, and outdate checking. Also performs nonsterile compounding and sterile IV admixture following USP standards and aseptic technique where applicable.

Works in a collaborative pharmacy environment at Anderson Health Center, inspecting storage areas for policy adherence and completing medication admission histories. Supports area leaders on goals and assignments, abiding by all organization policies, legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards. Engages in obtaining patient demographics, data entry, insurance verification, and cashiering functions.

Opportunities include developing competence in third-party billing, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and assisting in training new technicians on policies and workflows. May obtain immunization certification to perform immunizations under pharmacist supervision. Seeks additional duties when required work is completed to contribute to departmental excellence.
