About this role
Sentara Health is hiring a full-time Specialty Clinical Pharmacist for the Proprium Specialty Pharmacy team in Chesapeake, VA. The pharmacist is responsible and accountable for the provision of safe, effective, and prompt pharmacy services. They participate in all necessary aspects of the medication-use system while providing comprehensive and individualized pharmaceutical care to patients.
Daily responsibilities include managing patient drug therapy in accordance with clinical practice standards and assuring the appropriateness of all provider medication orders. The role requires maintaining current knowledge of medication use and disease states applicable to specialty pharmacy practice. Provides in-depth patient counseling when required and serves as the primary resource for drug information and education.
Works days shift Monday-Friday from 8:30am-5:30pm with one consecutive week of on-call duty every 1-2 times per year for after-hours assistance. Demonstrates superior customer service, effective communication, and organization in a collaborative environment. Serves as a role model in professionalism, collaboration, and teamwork while ensuring adequate supplies for continuous patient care.
Participates in training new employees, precepts pharmacy students, and continually seeks additional training opportunities. Assumes local responsibility for assigned tasks and stays abreast of new and changing information. Triages issues outside scope of practice and maintains quality assurance per departmental and legal requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Level Degree in Pharmacy (Required)
- Doctorate Level Degree in Pharmacy (Preferred)
- Virginia Pharmacist License (Required)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) (Preferred)
- Previous Retail or Outpatient Experience (Preferred)
- Knowledge of Specialty Medications and Complex Health Conditions
- Supervisory Experience (Preferred)
