The position supports the mission of the department by ensuring that the right patients receive the right medication in a safe and timely manner. It focuses on clinical review of medication orders from prescribers.

Clinically reviews medication orders to ensure the medication is safe to administer to the patient. If not, intervenes with the prescriber on behalf of the patient. Appropriately enters orders into the Pharmacy Information System.

Supervises pharmacy technicians and interns to ensure daily patient needs are met. Provides drug information to medical staff and patients upon request. Serves as a liaison between the pharmacy department and health care providers.

Responsible for day-to-day management of drug distribution, including controlled substances, IV medications, and investigational drugs. Actively participates in continuous performance improvement activities. Maintains professional development through continuing education and current literature.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited college of pharmacy
  • Current MA registration in Pharmacy
  • Valid MA pharmacist license
  • Ability to be thoroughly trained to meet job description requirements
  • Competency in all practice areas where pharmacist duties are performed
  • Understanding of departmental competency requirements
  • Knowledge of safe medication practices for critical care patients
  • Familiarity with Pharmacy Information System and related technology

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a liaison between pharmacy department and health care providers
  • Utilizes all technology to accomplish drug distribution and order management
  • Participates in continuous performance improvement activities and performs assigned projects efficiently
  • Demonstrates competency in all practice areas and complies with departmental policies
