About this role

Responsible for the provision of pharmaceutical care at assigned locations through involvement in direct patient care, operational, and educational activities. This role ensures accurate medication dispensing and drug use control in service areas. Professionals detect and manage adverse drug reactions while promoting medication safety.

Daily tasks include reviewing each order for accuracy and appropriateness, dispensing medications from provider orders, and ensuring policies related to drug distribution are followed. Pharmacists supervise technicians in drug preparation and maintain necessary records according to legal requirements and hospital policies.

In the team environment, individuals assume responsibility for pharmaceutical services, provide objective feedback on co-worker performance, and participate in orientation for pharmacy students, residents, and new employees. They communicate findings and recommendations via the clinical information system to support patient care.

Growth opportunities involve participating in educational activities to enhance knowledge of drug therapy, planning changes to improve pharmacy productivity, and completing assigned written tasks and continuing education in a timely manner.

Requirements

  • Must possess current Pharmacist license through the West Virginia State Board of Pharmacy
  • Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 60 days of hire date
  • Pharm.D. from an ACPE accredited school of pharmacy (preferred)
  • Completion of a PGY-2 Residency in an applicable clinical field
  • Completion of a PGY-1 Residency
  • Three years of relevant pharmacist experience

Responsibilities

  • Reviews each order to verify and confirm accuracy and appropriateness
  • Dispenses medications from the provider’s order
  • Ensures that policies and procedures related to drug distribution are followed
  • Manages drug use control in assigned service areas
  • Identifies problems related to aspects of drug use control and offers constructive ideas for resolution
  • Detects, reports, and helps to minimize or manage adverse drug reactions and medication errors
  • Supervises technicians in drug preparation and distribution duties
  • Participates in the orientation and education of pharmacy students, residents, and new department employees
